ABOUT HP: School Overview
Hyde Park Baptist Schools is a co-educational, college preparatory school system in Austin, Texas. The schools are non-discriminatory and enroll students from Bridging-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Hyde Park Baptist Schools is a self-supporting ministry of Hyde Park Baptist and Bannockburn Baptist Churches.

Governance
Hyde Park Baptist Schools is governed by the School Board Committee of Hyde Park Baptist Church. There are nine board members from Hyde Park Baptist Church and two from Bannockburn Baptist Church. The members of this committee serve staggered three-year terms. This School Board hires the Superintendent and, along with the Superintendent, serves as an Executive Board that governs the school system. The School Board meets monthly with the Superintendent and all school administrators in a publicized, public meeting open to all people interested in attending.

History
Hyde Park Baptist Schools began as a Child Development Center (CDC) in 1968. The CDC was one of the first such programs in Austin to be accredited by the National Association for Early Childhood Education. Hyde Park Child Development Center’s purpose was to provide outstanding care and teaching in a Christian setting.

In the fall of 1968, a Kindergarten began for 5 year olds, and the school began to add one grade per year until it had reached Grade Six. As the school began to grow, it separated from the CDC and formed the Hyde Park Baptist School system. Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Texas, the elementary school’s mission was to provide the opportunity for an excellent Christian education to the Austin, Texas, community. The elementary school was fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency in the 1970s.

There were 230 students in grades 7 – 12 when our fully-accredited Hyde Park Baptist Junior/Senior High School began in the fall of 1980. The purpose of this secondary school was to prepare young people for college with a firm foundation for lifelong decision-making. The faculty of Hyde Park Baptist Schools continue to work in partnership with families to lead students towards mastery of fundamental skills and thinking processes and to develop the “whole student” intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, spiritually, and ethically.

One year later, in 1981, another elementary school campus was opened to meet the growing demand in the Southwest Austin area for a strong and well-rounded program based on sound educational and biblical principles. This Bannockburn Elementary campus of Hyde Park Baptist Schools began with an enrollment of 80 students and is located on the property of Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, Texas 78745.

While remaining true to its heritage, Hyde Park Baptist Schools has grown to more than 760 students, making it one of the largest private school systems in Austin, Texas. Over 99% of all Hyde Park graduates go on to higher education; 1,100 students have graduated from Hyde Park Baptist Schools as of May 2004.

Hyde Park Baptist Schools is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Accreditation Commission of the Texas Association of Baptist Schools.
