2007 Homecoming & 2nd Annual County Fair
Friday, October 19th
Homecoming was a barrel of fun, as the Upper Field of the Quarries was transformed into an old-fashioned County Fair, complete with a dunking booth, a cake decorating contest, rides, games, cotton candy, a country store, and much more. Record amounts were raised by the student organizations that sponsored booths, and hundreds enjoyed BBQ dinner by Rudy’s. For the record, the game was a big W, as the Panthers overcame the TSD Rangers in an exciting 4th Quarter come-from-behind win, 48-40, in front of a very enthusiastic home crowd. At half time, the founders of HPBS, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edd Shotwell, were presented with a Thomas Kinkade painting by the chairs of the committee raising funds to build the new Lane and Bob Edd Shotwell Library, Peg and Bob Gerrie. 1981 alum and current HP parent, Kristi Burford-Vaught, was the winner of the Alumni drawing (2 UT vs. Texas Tech Football Tickets). Mark your calendars for October 2008 - we'll post the exact date for next year's homecoming/county fair when football schedules are confirmed by district officials.
Alumni Basketball Game - December 16, 2006
Although the alumni team gave a valiant effort, the HP varsity boys took the win (this time). To view pictures from this event (over 450 photos) click on the link for HPBS HS Basketball at

2006 Homecoming and 1st Annual County Fair
On October 13th, a new Hyde Park tradition began - the first ever Homecoming County Fair at the Quarries. Later, over 2500 spectators gathered, cheering the HP Panthers on to a 40-9 victory over San Marcos Baptist Bears. Lana (King) Howell ('89) was the winner of the alumni door prize - 2 UT football tickets and Goal Post Club passes. To view and purchase pictures, visit

HOMECOMING 2005
Friday, September 30th
Alumni, students, parents and faculty came early for barbeque, wore camouflage, and cheered for the Hyde Park Panthers in a showdown against the St. Michael's Crusaders. Although the final score didn't favor the Panthers, joyful memories were made and new traditions began. The 1st Annual Alumni Reception garnered much attention with refreshments, Doodlebug's balloon creations, face-painting, photo opportunities and HP Alumni spirit clappers. By the end of the night, Matt Angus (2005) had won the alumni prize drawing - 2 tickets to the UT vs. Texas Tech football game. With plans for an even BIGGER and BETTER Homecoming next year, HP alumni should mark their calendars now for October 13, 2006!
ALUMNI RETURNED TO THE DIAMOND
by Coach Ryan Hancock
The 2005 Hyde Park Alumni baseball game had a great turnout, despite the rain. In January 2005, 12 former players and
Coach Dan Gardner, the Business Administrator of Hyde Park Baptist Church and long-time former HP baseball coach, showed up to see how they would match up against the current field of Hyde Park players. The teams were evenly matched, with a great pitching duel between brothers
Ryan Miller (Class of 1996) and
Jeff Miller (Freshman/Class of 2008.)
Willie Armstead (Senior/Class of 2005) hit the game's first homerun with a 370-foot blast to straight away center, putting the 2005 Panthers in the lead 2-0.
Reggie Brown (Class of 1996) tied the game with a solo shot of his own. The pitching rivalry between the Miller brothers continued to the end, holding the game to a tie finish (2-2). What a great match-up!
A silent auction and hit-a-thon,
benefiting the HPBS baseball program, were also very successful events. Rudy's Bar-B-Q catered lunch as players shared current and past memories of Hyde Park baseball.
We look forward to seeing you at the game next year when we hope that tie will be broken!

HOMECOMING 2004
The
Hyde Park Panthers defeated the San Marcos Baptist Academy Bears, 53-6 in front of a fired up crowd on October 8, 2004, at the Quarries. Homecoming attendees also enjoyed barbeque catered by Rudy's, performances by the Cheerleaders and Prancers, and presentation of the Homecoming Court.
FIELD OF DREAMS BECOMES A REALITY! HOMECOMING 2003
October 31, 2003 was an historic day for Hyde Park Baptist Schools, as we celebrated our
first Homecoming on our very own home field! For many years, HPBS has leased facilities for all of its football games, including the "Home" games, but
thanks to the generosity of Panther Boosters and HPBS friends, we now have a beautiful field of our own!
The Panthers celebrated the completion of Phase I of the Athletic Complex with a
51-0 win over Texas School for the Deaf in front of 1,300 HPBS fans! "This is not the finish, but a GREAT FIRST STEP towards having what we need academically and athletically at the Quarries!" -
Coach Jim Mickler
