Hyde Park softball team makes it to the state final four
WACO – The Hyde Park Baptist Lady Panther softball team qualified for the TAPPS Class 4A state final four tournament and will took on the four-time defending state champion Galveston O’Connell Lady Buccaneers.
The Lady Panthers (22-6) advanced to the final four tourney by knocking off Fort Worth Trinity Christian, 4-1, in a regional playoff game last Friday at The Quarries in Austin. Hyde Park Baptist advanced to the regional round by crushing Houston Mount Carmel, 13-2, in a bi-district playoff game April 24 at The Quarries. The HP Lady Panthers scored 13 runs on 11 hits. The Lady Panthers made sure this one was never a contest, scoring four runs in the first inning and seven more in the second.
"The girls were ready to play,” said Voss, who has guided the Lady Panthers to a school-record 22 wins. “They may have been too ready. Our freshmen have never played in a varsity playoff game, so it was an entirely new experience for them. Undoubtedly, there were some jitters for them, but they handled it well.”
The Lady Panthers stormed through District 3 competition undefeated, outscoring their opponents 123-0. The Lady Panthers season ended in the state final four tournament as they were defeated by Galveston O'Connell. Congratulations to Hyde Park's Girls' Softball Team for an incredible season!
