Ways to Give
DEVELOPMENT: Ways to Give
Members of the HPBS community should be familiar with the following types of gift opportunities that are of frequent interest to potential donors. While not exhaustive, this list covers a wide range of possible gift options. No gift is too small, and likewise, no gift is too large.

Unrestricted Gifts
The HP Baptist School Foundation actively seeks and needs unrestricted gifts for Hyde Park Baptist Schools, the HP Baptist School Foundation, the Arise and Build Upon the Rock Capital Campaign, and the Touch a Life Annual Fund.

Restricted or Designated Gifts
Although unrestricted gifts are desired, as they can ultimately be put to use where needed the most, we do accept designated gifts to the Arise and Build Upon the Rock Capital Campaign fund. Likewise, gifts given directly to Hyde Park Baptist Schools can be designated to a particular program or department (EX: Fellowship of Christian Athletes program or Library department).

Endowment Funds
Endowments are invested and only the earnings are used for funding the purpose of the endowment, which enables the corpus to grow over time. Please see Endowments for more information on creating or supporting endowments at HPBS.

Memorial / Honor Funds
Gifts to a memorial or honor fund may be made in any amount. Proceeds may be placed in an endowment fund, may be designated to a certain fund (i.e., annual fund or capital campaign fund), or may be used to meet existing needs. If there is a desire for a more permanent acknowledgment, this should be discussed with the Director of Development who can facilitate establishment of an endowment that permanently memorializes or honors this person.  Please see Memorials and Honorariums for more information on this type of fund.

Gifts of Cash or Securities
The HP Baptist School Foundation welcomes gifts in the form of cash, checks or marketable securities. Checks should be made payable to the HP Baptist School Foundation. Gifts of securities are coordinated by the HPBS Office of Development. Proceeds from the sale of these assets can be designated to any fund, department or program you wish.

Please contact Linda Lotz, Director of Development, at llotz@hpbs.org or 512-465-8333 x1149 to obtain an Authorization to Donate Securities form for authorizing your broker to donate securities to the HP Baptist School Foundation account.

Stock Certificates and Stock Powers
If you send a stock certificate that is in your name, a letter of intent must be included. Under separate cover, please send a signed stock power. The HP Baptist School Foundation and HPBS do not recommend sending signed certificates. Stock powers are available from the Director of Development or from any broker. On the stock power, your signature is the only item that is needed. If the certificate is in HP Baptist School Foundation’s name, no stock power is needed. The process for reregistering stock certificates (transferring the certificate into HP Baptist School Foundation’s name) can take from 2-4 weeks. Stock certificates should be sent to:

If sent by U.S. Postal Service:
HP Baptist School Foundation
Office of Development
P.O. Box 4486
Austin, Texas 78765-4486

If delivered:
Hyde Park Baptist School
Office of Development
3901 Speedway Rm. #S232
Austin, Texas 78751

If the certificates have been reregistered to Hyde Park Baptist School or the HP Baptist School Foundation, a letter should be included identifying the donor and the purpose of the gift.

Planned Giving
Planned giving allows a donor to make a gift commitment to the HP Baptist School Foundation but to delay delivery of the final benefit of the gift until a later date. Donors who make planned gifts to the HPBS Foundation may receive tax and income benefits. Some types of planned gifts result in lifetime incomes for the donor and or other benefits. Some may entail reduction of income taxes, capital gains taxes and estate taxes. Please see Planned Giving for more information.

Gifts of Real Estate
Gifts of real estate may often bring a significant gift within the reach of many donors. The HP Baptist School Foundation welcomes opportunities to explore with donors gifts of real estate. Some donors may wish to give real property to the HP Baptist School Foundation and retain a life interest for themselves and/or spouse. Such gifts may benefit both the donor and, ultimately, the HP Baptist School Foundation.  Please see Planned Giving for more information on gifts of Real Estate.

Gifts In Kind and Other Tangible Personal Property
The HP Baptist School Foundation may receive gifts in kind and other tangible property. HP Baptist School Foundation reserves the right to sell any property not utilized by HP Baptist School Foundation or HPBS, obtaining the best available market price. HP Baptist School Foundation’s acceptance, use or disposition of the gift must have the prior approval of the HP Baptist School Foundation’s Gift Acceptance Committee. The proposed gift must be clearly articulated so the value of the gift can be fully understood. Gifts in kind must be transmitted via a Gift in Kind Donation Form or by a written statement (on a pledge form, for example) prior to consideration of the gift.
