HPBS retains the discretion to reject a request for administration of medication.

7. DISEASE SURVEILLANCE/PREVENTION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES:  The RN will follow-up with parents and family physicians regarding students with infectious diseases.  The RN will ensure the healthiest environment possible by monitoring/or excluding children with communicable diseases.

8. EMERGENCIES:  Major injuries or health problems which occur during school hours will be managed by the School Nurse including notification of parents, Emergency Medical Services and other providers of care as necessary.

9. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH:  The RN will work in an advisory capacity to the principal to resolve environmental issues such as fire safety or hazardous physical facilities which impact student health.

10. NETWORKING:  The School Nurse will work with students and their parents to establish linkages and referral relationships with community health resources.
